Plex war ursprünglich ein Media Center für die Xbox und wurde nun auf Mac OS X portiert. Der Front Row-Konkurrent besticht vor allem durch seinen großen Funktionsumfang und die frei konfigurierbaren Ordnerstrukturen. Das bedeutet, dass Plex nicht mit iTunes und iPhoto zusammenarbeitet, sondern der User übergibt der Software die Ordner, in denen sich Musik, Filme und Bilder befinden. Dabei beherrscht Plex auch Last.fm. Neben den klassischen Aufgaben eines Media Centers kann Plex das Wetter anzeigen sowie Skripte und Programme laden.
